People? What are people? : Things that go through an introverts mind at the beginning of college

Pallavi Chakraborty

In this big world of non-stop talking souls, some people prefer being quiet. They tend to engage less with the outside world and more with their inner self. They are not the popular ones, they are rather shy and reserved. For them engaging with new life conditions is like pushing themselves out of their comfort zone. Imagine their situation when they first step into their new college life. Following are the things you will relate to if you or anyone you know is an introvert.

1. New college more people to engage with. OH NO.

The thought of entering college for the first time might excite your friends. But when it comes to you, you’re like – No, no, no! Why me? You’d rather bury yourself in a book or sit with yourself and some quality music. Engaging with new people is just not your thing, besides- what exactly do you start saying?

Hi! Awesome shoes! – Nah, too creepy.

Hello. – Nah, too short.

Hi, my name is Pooja I came to Mumbai recently would you like to be friends huh I’m a little awkward hah I’m so sorry but I’m really new but oh sorry I’m blabbering again – NO. Not doing this.

 2.Phase two : The Introduction.

You walk into your new class and you’re asked to introduce yourself, our mind blanks out and you freeze. It’s a  class full of human looking strangers.

Nope, rather have name tags and distribute pamphlets of who we are. SO much easier!

Your mind blanks out and you freeze when the teacher asks you to introduce yourself to a  class full of human looking strangers.

3.Clusters begin to form. *sniff*

You feel ignored and neglected when you see others forming their own groups and talking about their exciting lives.
You still don’t know what to say, and you’re quickly tagged as ‘weird’, ‘quiet’, ‘antisocial’, when the problem is just that you don’t really know what would be the right thing to say!
Besides, this new Linkin park album is really cool.

 4. Being part of a cluster is tiring!

Even if you are a part of a big group, a while later all your energy is drained after making so many conversations and still being called quiet and uninterested.
AND you end up feeling sorry for yourself.

5) You keep worrying about what the professors will think when she sees you sitting alone in one corner of the class.

Teachers, ah. Sweet things that try to engage you more in class and try to ask you more questions. You just end up standing there feeling awkward that a whole class is now staring at you.
You’re then called after class to solve your ‘problems’- those you never had.

Sigh. Tuning out is so much easier. *plugs in*

But, all’s well when you find those people who match your wavelength, and they will find themselves to yo if you don’t find them. And you will find solace in their company while you all sit quietly and practice good old telepathic communication 😉

Because, introverts are individuals of a few words. A few precious words.
