It’s true that sometimes all students in India feel that vacations should be in the rainy season, and not in the summer. As much as we all love rain, it can be a big pain when important papers get wet, when we have to travel for a whole 2 hours in wet clothes and when we forget to carry umbrellas and curse our way back home. Rain can force you to be under dressed, and that isn’t fair.
It’s all true, but we can’t really help the timing of our vacations and the one awesome thing about college that we all take for granted is that we are at the height of our freedom at this point. There are no uniforms, for one! And it’s time to spend these three or more years of college wearing the best you can- Be it summer or winter or yes, MONSOON!
Here’s an extra special feature put together by two lovely ladies at CMWC for all of you lovely people out there.
1. The Ultra Trendy Umbrella
One of monsoon’s most essential accessories, the humble umbrella is a life saver indeed! And since you have to carry it every day, why not carry it in style?
Go all out with funky patterned, checkered and delicate floral printed umbrellas. For a sober look, you could opt for a self colored umbrella or something in neon tints, for that added spunk.
2. Cheating the fixed weather code – Wind Cheaters and Trench coats!
Who said rainy wear had to be boring? For those days when your umbrella just isn’t enough to shelter you from the rains, a wind cheater or a trench coat is your ideal mate. A self-colored wind cheater in a solid color is a must, as it would compliment any look. For those willing to experiment, there are plenty of options available, from cartoons to classic floral and plaid prints.
3. To protect your stuff plus look like a million bucs – A Water proof tote bag .
A waterproof tote bag in a pastel shade is your safest bet during monsoons. Spacious enough to hold your wind cheater and umbrella, this chick monsoon must have can be teamed with almost any outfit and makes for a perfect cesspool for all your daily utilities.
4. Comfy and chic! – Full length cotton pants.
Ditch those jeans and opt for chic, breathe-‐able cotton pants instead. Available in a plethora of patterns, cotton pants in solid colors and bold patterns are ideal for the Mumbai monsoons. Pair them with a self-colored tank top and a chunky scarf for a day look and replace the scarf with a chunky necklace for a sassy night look.
5. Airy and cool! – Cotton shirt
A well fitted cotton short in a solid color can be your most versatile wardrobe investment in the monsoons. Pair it with trousers or Pallazos for a formal look or with rugged denim or printed cotton shorts for a casual look. This versatile cotton shirt is sure to be a smart investment!
6. Safe from the rains and edgy as well -Printed shorts
These monsoons go edgy with printed shorts. Available in various colors and intricate, wacky patterns, sport them with a tank top or a denim shirt and you’re sure to make heads turn!
7. Go with the flow ! – Dresses and skirts
Self-colored or printed, dresses and skirts in light, flowy fabrics are your ultimate comfy wear in the monsoons. Wear them with gumboots or sandals, they’re easy to style and look petite.
8. Twist and play! – The trusty scarf
Scarf it up these monsoons! These monsoons experiment with multiple variations of draping your scarf and add some spunk to your look. Wear it with a tank and denim shorts and you’re all set to go! You can even team it up with an Indo-western skirt and some ethnic earrings for a fusion look.
9. Splish Splash! – Gumboots
Now this one’s tricky! Gumboots are a great way to keep water off your pretty pedicured toes, as well as make a style statement; however, getting them right is important, as they have a tendency to look drab! Ankle length boots are your safest bet, as they keep your feet clean, and are ‘non-drab’ certified. For those of you willing to experiment, go for knee high gum boots, in solid colors. Take it a notch higher with printed gum boots, however, choose your patterns well, stick to plaid or classic prints like polka dots and try and avoid intricate patterns.
10. Show off your pretty feet ! – Waterproof flip-flops and sandals.
For those days when you don’t feel like gumboots, slip into some comfy waterproof flip-flops. Sandals look great as well. Ensure that your toe nails are well groomed with a bright nail color, wear a chunky anklet, and your feet are monsoon ready!
